Dayanand Vedic College, the glorious seat of higher learning established 72 years ago, had the Chemistry Department as an integral part of the esteemed institution in its stride throughout the years since its inception. The Chemistry Department, with seven faculty members, derives its strength from the core values of visionary founders and the nurturing hands of eminent educationists at the beginning who laid the platform to bring the highest quality education to the reach of all. The distinguished teaching fraternity of the past and successful alumni made immense contributions to the journey of this august institute. It is equally matched by the earnestness of the current academic community and the vibrancy of young researchers to continue the legacy and take it to the next level.
Departmental profile
The Department of Chemistry, one of the oldest and biggest departments of Dayanand Vedic College, has a glorious history of 60 years, founded in 1963 at the undergraduate (B.Sc.) level. From 1971 onwards, the department started offering an M.Sc. in chemistry and a B.Sc. degree. Since then, it has grown by introducing specializations in Inorganic, Organic, Physical and Industrial Chemistry. In 2000 B.Sc. in Industrial Chemistry was introduced. Dr. S. P. Saxena has been the founder and head of this department.
Research activity in the Department started on a modest scale in 19 under Dr. S.P. Saxena, Professor of Physical Chemistry and the Head of the Department. The research was mainly in photochemistry, colloids, magnetic susceptibility measurements, the kinetics of solvolytic reactions and electrochemistry. The department has flourished in the rich traditions set earlier by Dr. S. P. Saxena and Dr. G.S. Niranjan and was carefully nourished by latter heads of the department whose list and file photographs have been disclosed. From 2016 onwards, the department has been headed by Dr. Vijay Kumar Chaudhary.
Dr. S. P. Saxena
Dr. S.P. Saxena was born in Lucknow and took his initial and postgraduate education from Lucknow and Ph.D. at Jaipur University. After that, he joined D.V. College, Orai. Along with studying and teaching in the education world, he worked several times as an acting principal in the college. Dr. Sexena published many Research Papers while working in the field of "Polarography" and also got a Ph.D. done to about 04 students. And retired from this department on 09 October 1996.
Dr. A. K. Nigam
Dr. A.K., Ph.D. from Nigam Sagar University. After obtaining the degree, on 28.10.1965, he was appointed a lecturer in the college. After working in various fields of education, they retired on 19.06.2006 and are leading a household life.
Dr. I. M. Beg
Dr. I. M. Beg was born in Khaga district Fatehpur and obtained a D. Phil in Chemistry from Allahabad University. Many students did research work under your guidance—those teaching in various state colleges. You were also the convenor of Bundelkhand University. After retiring as Head of the Department on 03.02.2008, he works as Manager at Karmayog Degree College, Itaura, Jalaun.
Dr. J.P. Pachauria
Dr. J.P. Pachauriya joined this department on 05.08.1969 as a Lecturer in D.V. College after receiving a D.Phil education from Allahabad University. He retired on 02.08.2009 after a long service. He also served as the dean of chemistry. His fame remained as a scholar-teacher. Many students did research work under his guidance.
Dr. G.S. Niranjan
Dr. G. S. Niranjan was born in the village Basti in this district and retired from the post of Reader after serving 62 years in the Department of Chemistry. Under your guidance, 21 students have completed their Ph.D. They took the degree and have been the principal of the same college for a decade. Many of his articles have been published in many International and National Journals. Three books have also been published in your chemistry. He has also been the President of the Bundelkhand University Teachers Association. You are a member of the Board of Studies of Bundelkhand University. He has also been a member and Convener. Under your direction, many students have become teachers in different state colleges.
Dr. S. P. Srivastava
Dr. S.P. Srivastava, after completing his education from Agra, a Ph.D. degree from Bundelkhand University, Jhansi. He retired after serving in this department till 22.07.2007. Dr Srivastava is known as a physical chemistry witness. Even today, he imparts his knowledge to us from time to time.
Dr. S. C. Khurana
Dr. S.C. Khurana took charge of the department’s lecturer post on 19.09.73. His research papers were published in various journals, and many students got Ph.D. Has received the title of.
Dr. Rajendra Kumar Nigam
Dr. Rajendra Kumar Nigam was born in this district, and Dr. Under the direction of K. C. Gupta, Ph.D. Took the title of and dated 15.08.74
Took charge of the department and retired on 14.03.2008.
Dr. K.C. Gupta
Dr. K. C. Gupta, after taking charge in this department on 01.09.1973 F. IP. Under H.B.T.I. Ph.D. from Kanpur Received degree of_. He is known as a subject matter expert in chemistry. Under his research direction, 08 students have completed their Ph.D. Has received the title of. About 45 of his research papers were published in various International and National Journals. He gave Conversion of Chimes and presented his paper eight times at the Indian Science Congress. After retiring from service on 01.06.2011, Seth Virendra Kumar became a Principal in Mahavidyalaya, Jalaun. And you were Convener of Chemistry at Bundelkhand University.
Dr. S.K. Gupta
Dr. S.K. Gupta was born in this district and did his Ph.D. at Bundelkhand University in 1986. D. Under your direction, many students got Ph.D. Received the degree of M.Sc. and retired as the Head of the Department on 30.01.2012. And currently working as a Principal at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Science College, Orai.
Dr. V. K. Chaudhary
Dr. Vijay Kumar Chaudhary joined Dayanand Vedic College, Orai, Jalaun, in 2009 and has a teaching experience that spans nearly 14 years. He keeps updating himself with the latest knowledge in his discipline and likes to interact with the students on contemporary issues and topics. Passionate about his work, he sets realistic goals and displays professionalism. He has been in charge of the department and as a member of several committees. He continues to devote time and effort to make himself more effective as a teacher. His classes are lively and interactive, and he motivates students to accomplish their goals and excel in every field of life. He has done his initial education, graduation and post-graduation from Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur. After that, he qualified CSIR NET in Chemical Science. He has completed his PhD at Bundelkhand University Jhansi. He has published many research papers in different journals and presented the report at various national and international conferences and seminars. He has also participated in different kinds of workshops. He has published two books for B.Sc. Sem. III students and wrote the chapters in editing books. He has a YouTube Channel named – Dr. Vijay K. Chaudhary, which is helpful for chemistry students.
Dr. Harsh Kumar Garg
Dr. Harsh Kumar Garg was born in this district, received his primary education, and obtained B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees from D. V. College, Orai, affiliated with Bundelkhand University. His research work is under the supervision of Dr. G. S. Niranjan. Before Joining this College, he also served at D. B. S. College, Kanpur. He worked as an Assistant Professor (Manday) in the Department of Chemistry, D. V. College, Orai, from 22/05/2009 to 07/03/2019. He joined this college as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry on 08/03/2019. His current research interests include synthetic organic chemistry, coordination chemistry, medicinal chemistry and natural product synthesis. He has published many research papers in National and international journals. He has co-authored two books published by Krishna Prakashan.
Dr. Sharat Srivastava
Dr. Sharat Srivastava obtained his post-graduate degrees from Bipin Bihari College, Jhansi, affiliated with Bundelkhand University, Jhansi, in 2002. He received his Ph.D. from Bundelkhand University Jhansi, India, in 2006 under the supervision of Dr. Yogesh Pandey. He worked as an Assistant Professor (Manday) in the Department of Chemistry, D. V. College, Orai, from May 22, 2009, to March 7, 2019. He joined this college as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry on 08/03/2019. His current research interests include synthetic organic chemistry, coordination chemistry, medicinal chemistry and natural product synthesis. He has published many research papers in national and international journals. He has co-authored four books published by Krishna Prakashan.
Dr. G. M. Basedia
Dr. Basedia was born in this district, received his primary education in this district and after receiving the degree of Ph.D.
Dr. Syed N. Hasan
Dr. Hasan was born in Banda and has worked as an Honorary Lecturer in this department since 30.05.2009 after receiving their Ph.D.
Mr. Shiv Rag Mishra
Mr. Shiv Rag Mishra obtained his graduate and postgraduate degrees from Government PG College Hamirpur, affiliated to Bundelkhand University Jhansi, in 2003 and 2005, respectively. He is pursuing his PhD program from AcSIR-CSIR under the supervision of Dr Vikram Singh, Scientist AcSIR- CSIR India. He joined this college as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry on 23/03/ 2019. His current research interests include fluorescent carbon nanomaterials, Green Synthesis, characterization, and Multi-functional applications of coal-derived fluorescent carbon Quantum dots, Interface chemistry & material science.
Dr. Praveen Singh
Dr Praveen Singh obtained his initial and post-graduate degrees from Udai Pratap Autonomous College, Varanasi, affiliated to Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, Jaunpur, up to 2009. He received his PhD from the Department of Chemistry, Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University, India, in 2014 under Prof. (Dr.) Ashish Kumar Tewari. He subsequently joined Obra Thermal Power Station through UPRVUNL from April 2016 to July 2018. He also worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, Rajiv Gandhi Government Arts and Commerce College, Lormi, Mungeli, Chhattisgarh, through CGPSC from 21/07/2018 to 28/03/2019. He joined this college as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry on 29/03/2019. His current research interests include synthetic organic chemistry, heterocyclic chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, medicinal chemistry and natural product synthesis. He has published many research papers in National and international journals.
It will be the effort of all of us working at present that in the future, we will give better results by making better efforts in the field of research. Along with this, in the form of “Role of Chemistry in Society” as an extra activity, the knowledge of every student will be further improved and the quality of education will be made higher and more modern by paying special attention.
